Live Performances

Daquin - Variations on "Noel Etranger" - arranged for flute ensemble

Transcribed by Shelley Collins. Performed on 7/24/08 at our wedding. Special thanks to Sandra Saathoff and Ron Haight (conductors), to my former students, and to members of the Seattle Flute Society.
Song of Peace - by Ina Shin - for piri, flute, and piano

In 2017 I had the opportunity to perform in a recital with piri player Dr. Jiyoon Kim. I'd never heard a piri before but enjoyed working with Dr. Kim and learning about a variety of traditional Korean woodwind instruments.

Dr. Jiyoon Kim is a Certified Apprentice of Korean National Intangible Cultural Heritage 46 Piri Jeongak & Daechwita, and the first Ph.D. in the field of Piri, a Korean traditional woodwind instrument.

University of Georgia Flutes
recorded my arrangement of Daquin's Noël étranger in 2017. Thanks so much for a beautiful interpretation!

Conductor: Achim Reus
Ensemble: University of Georgia Flutes
Tips for Buying a Flute

Several years ago I took the DSU Flute Ensemble on tour, and we stopped at a couple of music stores. I picked up a random flute to try, and the next thing I knew, this was on YouTube. Of course, I also play full range scales, some lyrical pieces, and I use a tuner when trying new flutes!
Flute Ensemble + Added Instrumentation

I like to vary the tone colors of the flute ensemble by adding other instruments. In this performance of "Tango" from Three Southern Pieces by Russell Howland, we didn't have a harp or bass clarinet (called for in the score), but we did have marimba and cello!

Special thanks to: Beth Callentine, Erin Kessler, Erica Margo, Danielle Parris, Bill Schultze, Suzie Strickler, and Bethany Walrad, flutes
Meghan Hovick and Rachel Redmond, marimbas; Emily Pew, cello; Matthew Shi, bass; and Dan Adams, percussion.
Pergolesi - Gloria (sound file)

Hoping to get a good recording of this piece soon. The sheet music is available for purchase here.
